Epidemiology research training is available for trainees in this program.
First, residents or fellows can elect for formal training at the Center for Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics in the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine with mentoring by faculty members who have appointments in both the Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology and the Department of Dermatology. This training can result in the award of a MSCE or a PhD. Funding is available for this type of training through NIH-based training grants, as well as, industry-based training grants.
Second, within the Departments of Dermatology, and Biostatistics and Epidemiology there currently exist several faculty members whose research programs involve skin diseases. It is possible during dermatology resident training to study/train with them, thereby gaining an exposure to the discipline of Dermatoepidemiology.
