E. John Wherry, PhD
Professor & Chair
Director, Institute for Immunology
Department of Systems Pharmacology and Translational Therapeutics
Perelman School of Medicine
About the Lab:
The goal of the Wherry lab’s work is to define the function, differentiation and molecular regulation of exhausted CD4+ and CD8+ T cells in chronic infections and cancer. Dr. Wherry continues major efforts in transcriptional profiling, genomics and computational biology as well as focusing on foundational approaches for the laboratory including multiparameter flow cytometry and host-pathogen interaction models. The lab also extends major observations in multiple animal models to humans including recent work on the combinatorial effects of radiation and checkpoint blockade. Dr. Wherry is Director of the Penn Institute for Immunology.
Training Information:
Dr. Wherry’s lab is extremely well funded and he has trained 11 pre-docs (1 current T32 appointee) and 14 post-docs, the majority of whom have continued in science.
