Flavia Teles, DDS, MS, DMSc
Associate Professor
Department of Microbiology
School of Dental Medicine
About the Lab:
Dr. Teles’ research activities focus on the oral microbiome, in particular, the microbial contributions to periodontal and peri-implant diseases and head and neck carcinogenesis. The laboratory’s main line of research is dedicated to the identification and cultivation of new periodontal pathogens. She has pioneered methods of cultivating multi-species biofilm using models that accurately recapitulate the complex microenvironment of the gingiva-tooth interface. Dr. Teles can provide training in bacteriology, molecular microbiology, and the development of model systems to analyze host-microbial interactions.
Training Information:
Dr. Teles has mentored a diverse group of national and international predoctoral and postdoctoral students, and is an excellent example to our trainees of a successful female physician scientist who does translational research.
