Biography

Yacine Sow attended Brown University where she double-majored in Public Health and Human Biology, graduating with honors. Afterwards, she attended Morehouse School of Medicine and a completed a Pre-Residency Fellowship in Skin of Color at the University of Pennsylvania Department of Dermatology before entering M4. Her research focuses on developing and evaluating interventions to reduce health disparities among marginalized communities. She authored chapters in the upcoming edition of Taylor & Kelly’s Skin of Color textbook, published on the Minority Hair Tax, and conducted a consensus study on the management of CCCA. Recognizing that advocacy further propels research, she served on the DIGA Policy, Advocacy, and Diversity committee hosting a podcast on the power of patient advocacy in dermatology and building advocacy toolkits for students looking to increase Skin of Color representation in their medical curriculum. In addition, she is passionate about leadership and health education and secured community education grants to teach dermatology to elementary and middle school students. As the oldest of three children, mentorship is embedded in her character. She mentored over 20+ students at all levels, mainly through opportunity sharing, strategic planning, and resource mobilization. In the future, she hopes to build an academic niche in Hidradenitis Suppurativa, alopecia, and health services research while continuing to mentor and uplift others.
