Session I: Preparing to write + biosketches + drafting letters of support
Pre-Read: Part I (Chapters 1-6) and Chapter 12 of the Grant Application Writers Workbook (GAWW)
Preparation:
- Use NIH Reporter / MatchMaker to identify similar grants, competition
- Identify and carefully read the Funding Opportunity Announcement you will be applying for.
- Block off time on your calendar for regular writing and set a time table for completing the components (template proved)
- Draft biosketch using template

Session II: Specific Aims + Significance and Innovation + Rigor of the Prior Research
Pre-Read: Part II (Chapter 7 and 8) and Part III (Chapters 9 and 10)
Preparation:
- (BY 9/1/2023 for DF Awards) Draft and ask for Letters of Support from applicable parties, eg. Chair, Collaborators, Consultants
- Draft of Specific Aims
- Ask references to write letters, if applicable

- (For F fellowships): Complete Fellowship Application Section, RCR, Institutional Environment, Commitment to Training, Respective Contributions, Selection of Sponsor and Institution
- (For DF): Career goals, short and long summaries
